What Our Adult ADHD Assessment Includes

Our ADHD assessment is a thorough, evidence-based evaluation designed to provide diagnostic clarity and practical support. The assessment includes:

  • Developmental history — a detailed exploration of your early development, education, and life experiences to identify longstanding patterns consistent with ADHD.
  • Clinical interview — a structured conversation covering current symptoms, daily functioning, relationships, work or study, and mental health history.
  • DIVA (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults) — a structured clinical interview that systematically examines ADHD symptoms across childhood and adulthood, using concrete examples from your daily life. The DIVA is recognised internationally as a best-practice diagnostic tool for adult ADHD.
  • Collateral information — where possible, we gather supporting information from someone who knew you as a child (such as a parent or sibling) to strengthen the developmental picture.
  • Comprehensive written report — a detailed document outlining the assessment findings, diagnostic conclusions, and personalised recommendations for support, adjustments, and next steps.

Who Should Consider an ADHD Assessment

Many adults live with undiagnosed ADHD for years, often developing their own strategies to cope while feeling that things are harder for them than they seem to be for others. You may benefit from an ADHD assessment if you recognise a persistent pattern of:

  • Difficulty concentrating or sustaining attention, especially on tasks that are not immediately stimulating
  • Chronic disorganisation, frequently losing things, or struggling to keep on top of responsibilities
  • Impulsivity in decision-making, spending, or conversations
  • Restlessness or an internal sense of being constantly "on the go"
  • Difficulty managing time, meeting deadlines, or estimating how long tasks will take
  • Emotional dysregulation, including quick frustration, mood swings, or difficulty managing strong feelings

It is increasingly recognised that many adults, particularly women and those who performed well academically, can reach adulthood without a diagnosis. The NHS estimates that ADHD affects around 3–4% of adults in the UK. Seeking an assessment later in life is both common and entirely valid. Understanding whether ADHD is part of your picture can be a turning point in making sense of your experiences.

ADHD often coexists with other difficulties such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and burnout. If you are also experiencing emotional difficulties alongside attention and concentration problems, our team can help you understand how these connect and what kind of support would be most useful.

Frequently Asked Questions About ADHD Assessment in Glasgow

How long does an adult ADHD assessment take?
The assessment process typically involves 2–3 hours of clinical interview and questionnaire completion, which may be spread across one or two sessions depending on your needs. Following the assessment, your psychologist will write a comprehensive report, which is usually available within 3–4 weeks. A separate feedback session is then arranged to discuss the findings and recommendations with you.
Can the ADHD assessment be done online?
Yes. We offer ADHD assessments via secure video call, which means you can complete the assessment from the comfort of your own home anywhere in the UK. The online assessment follows the same clinical standards and NICE-guideline-aligned process as our in-person assessments. Contact us to discuss whether an online or in-person assessment is best for you.
What happens after I receive an ADHD diagnosis?
Your comprehensive report will include a clear diagnostic opinion along with tailored recommendations for support. These may include workplace adjustments, strategies for managing daily life, and onward referral options. If medication may be helpful, we can recommend that you speak with your GP or a psychiatrist, as psychologists do not prescribe medication. Many clients also find it helpful to explore longer-term therapy to address the emotional impact of living with undiagnosed ADHD.
Do you prescribe ADHD medication?
No. As clinical psychologists, we do not prescribe medication. However, if our assessment suggests that medication could be beneficial, your report will include a recommendation for referral to a psychiatrist or your GP, who can discuss medication options with you. Our role is to provide a thorough diagnostic evaluation and psychological recommendations to support you.
Is your ADHD assessment accepted by the NHS?
Yes. Our ADHD assessments are conducted by HCPC-registered clinical psychologists and follow NICE guidelines. Reports are widely accepted by the NHS, employers, universities, and other organisations. If you have specific requirements for how the report should be formatted, please let us know when you get in touch.
